Gijs Vervenne
As a cinematographer I am interested in the human psyche, where the internal conflict often takes the lead. With my camera I want to investigate and capture these intimate, elusive and sometimes incomprehensible emotions. Only when I have managed to touch an audience, my goal has been achieved.
I compose, emphasize the emotion, take the viewer on a journey or give the conflict the necessary undertone. My visual language is inspired by the game and uses the breaking and bending of the rules to tell the story more strongly. An eternal balance between content and aesthetics.
My mission is to give each film its own, fitting and deepening visual voice, so that the story can fully unfold. Where one film asks for tenderness, and the emphasis is on the smallest nuances such as Déjà Vu (2025), another film asks for a raw, naturalistic story such as Waar is mijn Libido (2024).
